Sharing the Ohio Hunger Story
The Ohio Association of Foodbanks (the association) is the state’s largest charitable response to hunger, representing Ohio’s 12 Feeding America foodbanks and 3,300-member charities, including food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.
The association continues to serve 1 in 6 Ohioans each year. In 2017, the association distributed more than 216 million pounds of food — almost the same amount as the previous year. Although recent reports suggest the economic picture is improving, Ohio continues to lag the nation and has still not returned to pre-recession numbers.
To help communicate the critical need to address hunger in the Buckeye state, Inspire worked with the association to develop a series of infographics to share on the association’s and its 12 Feeding America foodbanks’ social media pages.
The infographics highlighted all aspects of food insecurity, including: child hunger, senior hunger, college campus food pantry numbers, Ohio hunger statistics, faces of hunger, benefits of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and the impact of the association’s state-funded programs.
- Several infographics were created and launched throughout the year.
- The graphics were shared with the association’s 2,300 Facebook followers and 3,100 Twitter followers.
- The graphics received hundreds of engagements, reaching the association’s target audience of consumers and legislators.
